Top 5 First Mods For Your UTV
Buying a UTV is an exciting endeavor because it presents so many opportunities for you. The destinations you can explore, the people you’ll meet, and the modifications you can do are the first thing people think about. Eventually, after riding for a while, the machine will start to feel like it’s lacking in certain places and could use some upgrades. While the possibilities seem endless, there are limitations to a factory UTV and that’s where installing aftermarket parts comes into play. It can be fairly difficult for a UTV owner to make the right choice on the first upgrades to do.
What Are The Top 5 Best First Mods?
Cold Air Intake
The plastic material used does not hold up to the elements well and will deteriorate within a year or two. The same goes for any other plastic in the engine bay that is exposed to the elements. Installing a cold air intake could also be very beneficial as factory intake systems typically restrict airflow to the engine. Most aftermarket intakes are a hefty upgrade compared to stock by using aluminum tubing and providing a pleasant tone to the engine. Many owners have noticed an increase in turbo noises once an intake has been installed.
Exhaust System
A factory exhaust system is similar to an intake in the sense that it is restrictive and can rob you of horsepower. Not only that, but it is incredibly quiet and most owners replace it first so they can hear their turbo or just hear the engine in general. Paired with an intake on turbocharged machines, the turbo will be much more prominent when accelerating and decelerating.
Blow Off Valve (BOV)
Most turbocharged machines do not come with a factory blow-off valve (BOV). Because of this, it is common for the charge pipe to pop off under load. When the charge pipe pops off it can leave you stranded unless you have the tools with you to fix it. The other concern with not having a BOV is causing premature damage to your turbocharger. Most BOV kits will come with a silicone charge pipe and are recommended to use as it eliminates any future issues. Tuning
An ECU flash is the easiest way to increase your power output along with improving the efficiency of your turbo and engine. Flashing your ECU takes a few minutes and yields incredible results. With this, you can increase the throttle response, and RPMs, remove the speed limiter, and many more options. Radius Rods
To save cost and a fraction of weight, most factory radius rods are made out of hollow tubing. This causes them to be prone to bending with incredible ease and will ruin your day if it happens. It is highly recommended to upgrade your radius rods with billet aluminum arms if you are planning on jumping your machine or doing any sort of hard driving. There are many more suspension upgrades you can do to your machine, but ultimately it will depend on how hard you plan on driving your UTV and what you use it for.
